      <image:caption>To attain the highest efficiency the QPV group seeks to understand the losses that are inherent to the photovoltaic power conversion process. This was first correctly established by Shockely and Queisser in 1961, plotting the blue 'power out' curve shown. In 2011 the QPV group accounted for other fundamental losses in the solar cell resulting in one of our highest cited papers on account of the clear exposition of the problem. We have since considered the opportunity that non-isotropic photon emission holds on the efficiency of photovoltaic devices, resulting in a minor revision to the Shockley-Queisser efficiency limit and demonstrated this in strained quantum well devices.</image:caption>
